About Us

Play Care is a weekday, non-sectarian nursery and preschool program for children ages 8 weeks to 5 years.  Located in the First Congregational Church of Chappaqua, Play Care offers a nurturing environment where children can play, learn, and grow under the supervision of our experienced and caring staff. 

Our Facilities :: Our large, cheerful classrooms and a separate crib room for infants are equipped with a broad spectrum of age-appropriate toys and learning materials, including computers in our 3 and 4-year-old classrooms.

Creative movement and music classes are taught in our spacious, indoor playroom, giving the children plenty of room to develop their large motor skills. This room also serves as an indoor play space on rainy days.

For outdoor activities, Play Care provides a safe, private play area complete with a new playground (installed in the summer of 2009 – see pictures here), a sandbox, a large paved area for ride-on toys, and landscaped areas which are perfect for nature walks.

Our facility has a new industrial kitchen for creative cooking.  An auditorium is available for special events like parent night and graduation. Of course, we have ample restrooms and a centrally-wired alarm system.

Curriculum :: The children spend their time at Play Care engaging in a range of activities designed to foster their social, academic, and creative development.

Our History :: Play Care was established in 1971 as a “drop-in” baby-sitting service, allowing mothers the opportunity to participate in various community events and activities. Since that time, Play Care has developed into a fully-equipped, state licensed day care facility and pre-school with a large, experienced staff of teachers, aides, and our Director, Carol Cleary.
